The kids!

Yes, it is winter here in Ohio. The cold weather hit hard. Temps. dropped drastically. I was afraid Belle wouldn't go outside, but she does. I did have to shovel some of the snow as it did get a little deep for her, but even with three legs off she goes into the yard! What a trouper!
Cody is settling in..She learned to go outside better and is gaining some weight. She was just bones!
I do think there is something wrong with her. She forgets how to get in the house, forgets how to go up and down steps and sometimes she just falls over. She is a good guard dog and barks when someone is around. Taco and she do the walk...all around the yard when they go out. So at least he has a buddy. He has tried to play with her but she isn't up for it...but they are getting better.
We will be spending the holidays together at home..just chilling. Hope you have a great one! Take care! And MERRY CHRISTMAS one and all!

Snow day

It is truly funny to watch the kids in the snow. This is my first year with Belle and her first encounter with snow for me. She is absolutely a comic! She didn't know what to make of it, but she did go outside and do her business.
Cody is settling in a bit. We still have issues with eating...have to separate everyone, but they are getting better. I can now leave dry food out and when the kids are hungry they eat. Cody doesn't gobble everything in sight! She lets me know when she wants to go outside and barks to come in!
The three kids do go outside and are good when out there. Cody will bark at people walking by. Belle will bark when Cody comes in....I tell you I have some silly kids.
Hope your weekend is safe and full of love and laughter...I have three to make me smile!

New addition

Taco and Belle are doing well. Little Belle is just a sweetheart.
Got a call about fostering another dog....she was abandoned in an empty house, full of fleas and lost her fur...age? her name was Molly 22.
You know me. I just can't say no, so we have a new addition to our little family....Cody. It is taking time to get her adjusted to the routine. Things are going slowly. She is finally going down and up the steps. She goes to the back door when she wants out. So some progress is made. Just need to get Taco to accept her.
Belle jumped off the couch barking and going after Cody when she first got here! She sure loves her mommy....Taco just growls every time she comes into a room....Hopefully things will get better!
Was told Cody didn't stay outside too long...ha, this dog won't come in! She loves the cold outdoors!
What a nut!
Have a great weekend, will need to get a pic of Cody!

The fall 2010

Ah the leaves, more leaves, and more leaves...
Belle and Taco run through the yard and Belle looks like a magnet attracting all the leaves. The other day I was outside with them and Belle was sniffing around, she lifted her head once and had leaves around her nose, tried to get them off and ended up with one over her nose...she looked so darned funny I busted out laughing and couldn't stop. Belle makes me smile every day!
Taco and Belle serenade me every evening...all I can do is laugh....
Happy fall and Thanksgiving to all!

Kids

Yes, the fall has come to Ohio. Leaves falling everywhere. I did go out and tried to blow the leaves but just as I got the whole yard done....the wind blew and it was covered again.
Taco and Belle are both doing so well. Belle is like a little leaf magnet when she goes outside she is leaf free...walks 2 feet and is covered in leaves. She is such a gem though. She loves to be snuggled with, but who doesn't enjoy a little snuggling. Taco is much worse since the one pit bull came over the fence after him...now he is so overly protective of me .... even to Belle, but then he is fine....for a little while and gets that way again...Poor boy.
The kids went and got a bath...and Belle got clipped. Today I was sitting in the house and could smell poo...looked at both of the kids and really didn't see anything, but then Taco came up to get petted and he had it all over his collar and leg and chest...so much for a bath!! He must not have liked the fresh smell from the bath...The picture of both of the kids is from the Woolybear Fest. We got to meet Dick Goddard and Big Chuck and Little John...what fun we had!
Hope to keep up with this a little better...Have a great day

Leaps and Bounds

I really can't believe this year is going so fast. Belle is doing so well. We went to the Vet last week and got all the shots updated. She was a frightened mess...shaking like a leaf. But once we got home...back to normal. Running through the house. Getting up on the couch. Getting on the bed. And chasing Taco in the yard. She has come a long way.
We went to the Pet Fest at the Black River Landings and I used the grocery cart to push her around and it worked well. Taco was a noisy boy but did well. The second day I took an afghan for Belle to lay on and she did, but when I moved around, she followed me everywhere.
They got home and fell asleep in seconds...and I did all the work.. What nuts.
But I love them both so much. They always make me smile and greet me each morning and when I come home from my appointments, their tails wag so welcomingly. Belle did find her bark and it is a deep one...but she can make it squeaky and make Taco howl even more.
Starting to wash rugs and get things started for fall...Hope you have a good one....til later....here are pictures of the kids...enjoy.

We are running!

What can I say about Belle and Taco? With the beautiful weather we are outside and the two of them are running around the yard. Belle is almost as fast as Taco and love her tummy rubbed when we are outside. She and Taco roll in the grass especially right after it is mowed. I am so glad Belle is becoming more and more a part of our family.....Happy Memorial Day!!

Progress

It sure is funny how we take so many things for granted. And when something happens it makes us realize how precious life is.
Take Belle...only three legs and she can run. She is a joy. I have doggie steps for her to go on the couch and she is finally using them all the time now. Taco and she lay together up on the couch.
She is still not coming when called, but she does know her name.
Today was a big step as she came into the living room where I was sitting and stood up on her back legs to get my attention, just like Taco does. It tickles me to see her making progress and when she runs..it is just heartwarming.
I cannot wait for the warmer weather so we can be outside more and see what Belle has in store for me....
Will keep posting about my babies...have a great day!!!

wow it is almost April

Well, Belle has settled into our routine here. She is a ball of fur. Still have not gotten her papers so I can get her groomed, but I do brush her every day and she is getting better about it. Taco is a little devil as usual and he and Belle seem to like one another more and more. I am happy to have her, now with the weather warming up, I hope to be outside more with my buddies. Will keep this updated and hopefully get pics after she is groomed. Have a great day!

Sunday number one

Well, here it is Sunday. We are still together. Belle has been sick. She did have a day of vomiting...phlegm mostly and just not feeling well. She still is not up and running, but she is eating a little dry food and drinking water. She is doing better at coming into the house and into more of the sun porch. It cracks me up to see her run in the kitchen...and then a dead stop to check and see where I am. She is responding more and more to her name and Taco has been laying all over her and next to her. I guess they are becoming friends. Hopefully with the warmer weather she will become more active. We'll see how this week goes......

Small steps

Well, this is a new step for me. Taco has been lonely since Kurt left us last year. I have been contemplating another dog...and along comes Belle.
Belle is a rescued dog. She only has three legs and is a Scottish Terrier...Long black fur with just a touch of white. I was told she was a very quiet little girl and weighed only 14 lbs. Well she is far from 14 lbs.
My worst fear was Taco not accepting another dog here, but that was the least of my worries. She didn't want him around and growled at him. She did not really have a name and so it was Belle...now I have Taco - Belle. I put Belle in a cage, but she did not stay there. I was told she was very shy, but not here. She settled in very well.
One problem is that she does not move....well, she wasn't moving...just laying in the same spot I put her.
I got her on Tuesday, March 10. She has made herself quite at home. She is lifting her head when I call her name. She has learned how to get into the house from outside and is moving farther into the house now. She runs thru the kitchen when we come in and looks like a little black mop...hair flying as she tries to run...but at least she is moving.
Now another milestone is met....she was barking this early morning when she heard voices outside! I have another protector!!!
Each day is bringing more and more small steps achieved. When I go into the bathroom she will get up and peek around the corner to see where I am.
For a shy dog, she is coming out of her shell well. I hope she will be coming to the kitchen soon to go outside, but for now, I will take each small step as an achievement....for a disabled dog..she is a really calm soul.....and Taco and Belle are now sleeping together....side by side....and I will now try and get back to sleep and hope no more fighting neighbors....Good night and have a wonderful day.....
